FOR DISCHARGE COORDINATORS
HENSLEY HOUSE OVERVIEW
First and foremost, thank you for considering Hensley House as an aftercare option for your clients. We know how much time, heart, and effort goes into helping someone transition successfully from treatment back into real life. Our team takes that responsibility seriously, and we’re honored to be part of that next step.
Hensley House has three homes, all connected to each other, located at 1719, 1717, and 1715 Pebble Brook Dr., Austin, TX 78752. We’ve removed the inner fences to create one giant backyard. The guys (and the dogs) love it! There are a total of 33 beds for residents.
Each house has two house managers, both with full manager capabilities, we don’t use a “head manager and assistant manager” setup. Also, there are no bunk beds in any house. (I didn’t fit in a bunk bed, and therefore I’m not a fan.)
Please call me, Patrick Hensley, at (512) 308-8803 for updated pricing. All events, outings, bills, linens, and cleaning supplies are provided. We also keep unlimited coffee, creamer, and sugar on hand. We don’t want any mutinies! Residents provide their own food and toiletries.
PET POLICY
We’re one of the few pet-friendly sober living homes in existence — and the guys love the dogs. At one point, we had four dogs, a tarantula, a chameleon, and a ball python!
All pet owners must provide current vaccination and shot records prior to entry. Pets must be house-trained, spayed or neutered, and up to date on flea, tick, and heartworm prevention medications.
RESIDENT REQUIREMENTS
Each new resident must have a minimum of 30 days clean and sober prior to entry — no exceptions.
All residents must pass scheduled and random weekly urinalysis and breathalyzer tests. We use 16-panel urinalysis cups and do not bill insurance for lab testing. There are zero narcotics of any kind allowed in the houses.
Each resident must:
- Gain employment within two weeks of arrival
- Get a sponsor within two weeks
- Actively work a program of recovery for the duration of their stay, which includes:
- Weekly, face-to-face sponsor meetings
- Attendance at regular recovery meetings (frequency depends on time in the house)
- Morning prayer and meditation
- 10th-stepping throughout the day
- Nightly written inventory
- Carrying the message at an H&I opportunity at least twice a month
Residents are assigned daily chores, and there are strict curfew requirements that gradually extend as residents demonstrate responsibility and time in the house.
All residents are required to attend the weekly Sunday house meeting, which typically lasts about two hours. During this meeting, we go in-depth into each resident’s personal, social, and spiritual life — and their overall recovery journey.
RESIDENT REQUIREMENTS
Each resident receives a Gold’s Gym membership upon arrival. Additionally, residents enjoy access to our year-round softball and flag football teams and golf league.
On-site amenities include:
A full garage gym, two large pools, cold plunge, sauna, lighted basketball/pickleball court, five kayaks, full golf bay, archery range, two ping-pong tables, pool table, full-length shuffleboard table, dart board, three gaming stations (each with PS5 and Xbox consoles), multiple stand-up arcade games, 33 Nerf guns, house bicycles and skateboards, golf clubs, cornhole boards, frisbee golf sets, softball and baseball gear, woodworking station, piano, four acoustic guitars, three electric guitars with amps, two pellet grills, three gas grills, one smoker, and a full-sized Blackstone flattop grill.
CAMARADERIE AND BROTHERHOOD
By far the biggest thing that sets Hensley House apart is the camaraderie and brotherhood felt within the homes. We invest significant time and funding into house outings and activities, all at zero cost to residents.
Recent outings include deer and dove hunting trips, offshore fishing in Port Aransas, skydiving, Six Flags, UT sporting events, K1 Go Karts, camping trips, Formula 1 and NASCAR races, paintball tournaments, bowling, batting cages, river floats, and concerts (recently Gorillaz, Chris Stapleton, Post Malone, and Eminem), just to name a few.
These outings re-teach residents how to enjoy life in recovery, and they have a direct impact on long-term sobriety. I firmly believe happiness is one of the greatest enemies of relapse and overdose.
The average length of stay at Hensley House is just over ten months. Across all three homes, we operate as a tight-knit family, we take recovery seriously and have a blast in the process.
RELAPSE POLICY
If a relapse occurs, the resident is immediately asked to leave — no exceptions.
When this happens, we immediately make three phone calls:
- The resident’s family or parents
- The treatment center the resident came from
- The resident’s sponsor
Our current relapse rate is one relapse every six to seven months, which we’re very proud of.
A resident who has relapsed or discharged for behavioral reasons may only return to Hensley House after the successful completion of a treatment program. (Some 14-day “intensives” may be considered.)
I hope this information is helpful for you and your staff when considering aftercare options for your residents.
Take care, and thank you again for your interest in Hensley House Sober Living.
Warm regards,
Patrick Hensley
